An ecstatically pleasing little tree with a straight trunk fanning out into many small branches and twigs. The bonsai of Oubaitori stands for gratitude and diffuses a warm feeling of thankfulness towards the world. “Oubaitori" is a Japanese idiom that people shouldn’t live their lives comparing themselves to others. Each flower blooms in its own time. This bonsai reminds us all that we each have our own unique journeys in life. It reminds us to be thankful for what we have.

Species: Zelkova Parfiflora
Age: ≈ 4 years
Height: ≈ 20cm
Pot: 15cm

The Zelkova likes a place in full sun during the growing season or, if the sunlight in your country is very intense, semi-shade during the warmest weeks. In winter, the Zelkova should be protected from frost, especially if planted in a shallow bonsai container. A cold but frost-free greenhouse, garage or shed is a good winter location for the Zelkova.

Water the Zelkova regularly and do not let the root ball dry out, but be sure not to overwater the tree. Overwatering can cause root rot. In winter, keep the root ball slightly moist. Avoid using very calcium-rich water.

Good fast delivery, well packaged. It is important that the tree does not dry out during transport. This is super! A manual focused on the type of "bonsai" would have been nice.

"Top company with fantastic service"

Besides that the tree looks awfully good, the service is also fantastic. After the first package was lost in the mail, they immediately switched and provided a solution. 10/10!

The Story of Oubaitori

"It was around spring time that I visited Japan. In the city center of Yokohama, I saw a crowd of people gathered under the cherry blossoms. Later I learned that these people were celebrating the Hanami ceremony, a spring tradition in which people admire the blossoms. The people gathered under the blossom trees, ate, drank and sang. I someone why all these people were gathering in front of these trees: "This blossom is only short-lived and when it blooms, people here organize picnics and hang lanterns in the trees at night. The short flowering period of the sakura symbolizes the impermanence of life. Just like people, not every tree will bloom at the same time and even if it lasts only a short time, every tree will have its moment of glory.” - The Bonsaïst B4C1
